Dr. Mask’s December Column
As I start my December column, I would like to Congratulate Dr. Lance and Kaley Bauer on the arrival of their beautiful daughter, Ms. Aubree Lynn Bauer. Mom, Ms. Aubree, and yes, dad is all doing outstanding.
It is hard to believe that 2023 is almost over and we are planning for exciting new things in 2024. As we close 2023, I want to take a moment to thank the BBU Officers, Board of Directors, and all the Committee Members that dedicate their time and talents to this great breed of cattle. I want to also thank the staff; we are very fortunate to have a great staff to help our members be successful.
The Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association Board of Directors and Ambassadors are hard at work with their gun raffle. If you would like to purchase a ticket, please contact one of these outstanding junior members. I have been told the first drawing is in February, so you have some time to get your tickets purchased.
As we move into 2024, we are going to have more educational events for our members. We will be working with satellites and marketing groups to provide these opportunities. If you have topics you would like to see programs about, please let us know. We are also going to do Facebook live and recordings to get information from the association as well as small educational segments.
We are conducting the final beta testing on our new registry system, Digital Beef. I am excited to be implementing our new system in January. The staff has been beta testing the system for the past six weeks and have developed a user manual that will be sent via email, and posted on our website for our members to use as they navigate the new system. I am not naive enough to think that there will not be any issues with the transition, however my hope is that they will be very limited due to our beta testing.
BBU will also be conducting and will be involved in several research studies that will start in 2024. At the time of this column, we have three projects starting, and you will read more about them in early 2024.
As I close this column, I would like to say what an honor it has been to serve BBU in 2023 and look forward to the upcoming year. Please take time to relax during the holiday season and remember the real reason for the season. I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year!!
Welcome change, embrace adventure, and make the new year one you’ll never forget.
See you down the road!
