In Texas and surrounding states, the major show season is not far off! At many of these shows the Beefmaster breed will lead the way with numbers of animals and exhibitors. The future of our breed is bright thanks to the hard work and dedication of the youth showing our cattle.
As a breed, we realize the importance of getting young people involved with Beefmasters and exposing them to the benefits of the breed. That is why we published the first edition of The Beefmaster Banner in January 2015. Thousands of copies of this directory were distributed at stock shows and other Beefmaster events, as well as mailings to every county extension office within the Beefmaster footprint. Additionally, FFA chapters in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi received The Beefmaster Banner at school to use as an in-class reference. With articles on nutrition, crossbreeding, cattle management and the Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association [...]
SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 4, 2015) – One hundred and eighty six Junior Beefmaster Breeders Association (JBBA) members and their families traveled to the Brazos County Expo in Bryan/College Station, Texas, for the 31st Annual JBBA Convention and National Show from July 20 – 26. There were five states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas) represented at the 2015 convention and the association celebrated 31 years of making memories one day at a time.
This year’s convention focused on the aspect that JBBA members are leaders in their communities and in the cattle industry. The convention hosted a leadership conference where JBBA members learned about leadership skills and building good character. In an effort to give back, these future leaders donated school supply items at the national convention which will be donated to local schools in the Brazos Valley. Junior members also learned about cattle ultrasound technology, beef cattle conformation and livestock [...]

By the time this article reaches your inbox, it will be junior show day at the San Antonio Stock Show. This will be the third major stock show I’ve been able to attend this year. At the Fort Worth Stock Show, Beefmasters were the talk of the barns all week! When all the junior show entries were counted, the biggest show belonged to the Beefmaster breed. As the show started at 1pm, there was not a seat to be found anywhere in the Watt Arena, with people standing all along the top of the stands fighting to see the 230-head heifer show. With an average class size of 20 head, judge Chris Cassidy had his work cut out for him! When the champion female was selected at 7:30pm, most of those ringside seats were still full!
In Jackson, Miss., at the Dixie National Junior Show, judge Mark Johnson was [...]
