Boerne, Texas – The 27th Annual San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo All Breeds Bull and Commercial Female Sale proved to be a successful event for five Beefmaster Breeders United (BBU) members, with two of the breeders taking top honors. Rancho Dos Vidas Ltd., Moore, Texas won Overall Grand Champion Pen of Females with their first place Beefmaster/E6 Certified Bred Heifers. Collier Farms Beefmasters, Brenham, Texas won Overall Reserve Champion Pen of Females with their second place Beefmaster/E6 Certified Bred Heifers.

The Beefmaster breeders were recognized prior to the sale held on Wed., Feb. 14, 2018 after being selected as top-placing cattle during the judging held on Tues., Feb. 13, 2018. All of the cattle consigned to the sale are judged by a panel of twelve judges. This sale features purebred bulls and commercial heifers consigned by premier Texas ranches.

Rancho Dos Vidas won grand champion with their consigned pen of Beefmaster/E6 Certified bred heifers with Red Angus sired calves. This pen consisted of a super set of moderate framed, easy fleshing Red Angus x Beefmaster replacement females. Don Mullins is the owner of Rancho Dos Vidas Ltd., and Lane Roberson is the ranch manager. Mullins is one of the first ranchers to utilize the Beefmaster breed, dating back to the 1960s.

“This is our seventh year to compete in the San Antonio All Breeds Sale. We started breeding our BBU registered females to Red Angus bulls eight years ago in an effort to clean up their underlines, get moderate sized calves and to become more functional as commercial cattle,” said Roberson.

Collier Farms Beefmasters won reserve champion with their consigned pen of Beefmaster/E6 Certified bred heifers with Angus sired calves. The ranch is owned by Mike and Rhonda Collier and Trey Scherer is the ranch manager. Since 1987, the Collier family has bred exclusively Beefmaster and Beefmaster influenced cattle, marketing and promoting the breed both domestically and internationally. Collier cattle are bred and raised to fit the demands of today’s commercial cattle industry.

“This is the third time for Rancho Dos Vidas to win Grand Champion Pen of Females with their Red Angus x Beefmaster females – 2013, 2014 and now 2018,” said BBU Executive Vice President Collin Osbourn. “However, this year is extra special because Beefmaster cattle not only took home the top honor, but also won the second top honor. It was a great day for the Beefmaster breed and our members.”

Three more Beefmaster honors went to well-known Texas ranches and prominent members of BBU. The first place Beefmaster/E6 Certified Cow/Calf Pairs award was presented to H.T. Chapman Cattle Company, Rockport, Texas. The first place Beefmaster/E6 Certified Open Heifers was awarded to Golden Meadows Ranch, Cotulla, Texas. The High Grading Beefmaster Bull award was presented to Swinging B Ranch, Axtell, Texas.
